Why Tout pour mon permis

Everything you need to pass first time, without breaking the bank

Just like the real exam: 50 questions, the question is read out first, then 15 seconds to answer, −1 / −5 penalty scoring, with instant corrections. Try a few questions right here — no account needed.

The official exam is taken in French or Dutch depending on the Region, and in German at the Eupen centre; some other languages, English included, only with a paid interpreter or audio translation. Studying in English first makes the Belgian rules and vocabulary far easier to master.

True to the real exam

50 questions, 15 seconds to answer once the question has been read out, −1 for a minor fault / −5 for a serious one, and the rule that two serious faults mean a fail.

After the theory test

Driving school prices, commune by commune

Passing the theory test is only half the road: next you need a driving school, and that is where most of the budget goes. We collect the 20-hour package price from approved driving schools in Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders and rank them cheapest first, commune by commune. One sorting rule — the price. No school can pay to move up the ranking.

Indicative prices, which may have changed since they were collected. Only the price quoted by the school itself is binding; any error can be reported and corrected.

Frequently asked questions

The Belgian theory exam, in practice

Can I take the Belgian driving theory exam in English?

Yes. For the official exam, help in English (an interpreter or an audio translation) is available in all three Regions, for a supplement and on conditions that differ from one Region to another. In Brussels, the exam is taken in French or Dutch; an interpreter for German, English or sign language, appointed by the test centre, costs €50 extra. In Wallonia, the exam is taken in French, or in German at the Eupen centre; in English or Dutch it is only possible exceptionally and by appointment, at the Couillet and Wandre centres, with a €59 interpreting supplement. In Flanders, the exam is taken in Dutch, with an audio translation into French, German or English for €43 extra, to be requested from the test centre when you register. Studying in English first makes the rules and the vocabulary much easier to master before you sit the exam.

How does the category B theory exam work in Belgium?

The exam takes place on a computer in an approved exam centre: 50 multiple-choice questions, with about 15 seconds to answer each question once it has been read out. You need at least 41 points out of 50 to pass.

How many mistakes are allowed on the theory exam?

Each minor fault costs 1 point and each serious fault (a 3rd- or 4th-degree offence, or speeding) costs 5 points. Two serious faults mean an automatic fail, even with 41/50. So you can lose at most 9 penalty points and make at most one serious fault.

How old do I need to be to sit the theory exam?

From age 17 for the category B licence. The pass certificate stays valid for 3 years to apply for the provisional driving licence.

What happens after failing the theory exam twice?

After two fails, you must follow 12 hours of theory lessons at an approved driving school before you can sit the exam again.

Can I practise for the theory exam for free?

Yes: on this page you can start a free 50-question mock exam without creating an account, read the free revision summary and follow the theory course. Full access (1,221 questions, unlimited mock exams) costs €4.99 for 5 days.

Everything for your licence, in one place

The Belgian theory exam, from A to Z

The category B theory exam in Belgium

The official theory exam has 50 questions; you need 41 out of 50 to pass, and two serious faults mean an automatic fail. The 15-second timer only starts after the question is read out — exactly what our free mock exam, no sign-up reproduces. The official exam is taken in French or Dutch depending on the Region, and in German at the Eupen centre; some other languages, English included, only with a paid interpreter or audio translation. This site lets you practise in English so you understand every rule before sitting it. To revise fast, the summary of the Belgian highway code gathers the figures you have to know (speeds, distances, alcohol), and the licence FAQ answers the questions everyone asks.

The hazard perception test

The hazard perception test shows dashcam-style clips where you have to spot hazards in time (pass mark: 6 out of 10). In Wallonia it's a separate test you must pass BEFORE the practical exam; in Brussels it's the first of the practical exam's two parts, to pass before the road test; in Flanders the GOCA Risk Perception Test is part of the practical exam. We are the only training filmed on real Belgian roads — two clips are free.

Moped licence, driving schools and the practical

The site also covers the AM (moped) licence with its own question bank. After your theory, you can look for a spot at a driving school — we let you know as soon as a partner school near you has an opening — and prepare for the big day with the real routes used by practical exam centres.
